Staff Secure Residential Program

Jefferson Hills treats Colorado’s emotionally and behaviorally challenged youth in a variety of settings.

Our Staff Secure Residential Program, located in Aurora, provides a safe, consistent, and predictable environment for youth ages 12-21.  Youth are assessed for safety and treatment needs through a multi-disciplinary team that involves all stakeholders, particularly parents/guardians.  Tapping into the youth’s strengths, a treatment plan is developed to include disposition planning and a successful return to the community.  Treatment services include individual and family therapy, group therapy, psychiatric assessment and medication management, medical services for routine and emergent care, and experiential programming such as Outward Bound, equine therapy, and our ROPES course.

Special Populations include those youth with drug/alcohol issues and/or sexually abuse behavior or victimization.  Youth with drug/alcohol issues participate in education, treatment, and relapse prevention groups.  Jefferson Hills provides offense specific treatment for identified male and female residents through its program for sexually abusive youth.  We are registered with the Sex Offender Management Board.

In addition, Jefferson Hills incorporates female gender specific tenets through its clinical, program, education, and medical services.  Implementing treatment components of empowerment, healing, accountability, and restorative justice by developing healthy relationships are key elements.  Expectant mothers may be admitted and are supported and prepared through treatment and medical care.

Education is a significant driver of success for youth and as such, our school program is a key component for all youth in our care.  An on-grounds school approved by the Colorado Department of Education provides all education and assessment services, as students work toward obtaining their diploma or GED.  Special education services are provided.  Licensed teachers provide classroom instruction in accordance with the Colorado Standards and pre- and post- testing tout achievement.  Vocational services are also provided through classroom instruction, and on- and off-ground work opportunities.  Credits are maintained in an official transcript and applied to the home school transcript.

Quality Education Services (QES) supports smaller education programs that are in need of a special education director and management oversight of their educational program.
